I am James D. Wilson, a 64-year-old artist who began painting in 2005 after the passing of my mother. The grief of losing her put me in a sad state of mind.  I started painting to validate my feelings and to honor her memory. Art allows me to express my emotions and utilize my creative energy.

In 2009, I enrolled in the Painting and Drawing Department at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ.  As part of the curriculum, I took some African American History classes that have influenced my style of painting over the years.

Since then the mission has been to create Art that evokes dialog and conversations for my viewers.  Art is a passion of mine that allows me to express my creative energy.

JDW Art reflects the world around me, my rich African American culture, highlighting social and racial injustice. I want my art to represent the truth about African Americans' beauty, strength, resiliency, and history.

About the Artist

In January 2023, I had the pleasure of having my artwork selected by the 52 Project exhibit 2023 that was shown at the Riverside Art Museum.  My Collection titled "Trans Atlantic Voyage" was the first showing of any of my artwork publicly in a Galley.  The Exhibit ran  February 2, 2023, thru June 30, 2023.
